A large body of research has established that having a regular meditation practice produces tangible benefits for mental and physical health, including:

  • Decreased blood pressure and hypertension
  • Lowered cholesterol levels
  • Reduced production of “stress hormones,” including cortisol and adrenaline
  • More efficient oxygen use by the body
  • Increased production of the anti-aging hormone DHEA
  • Improved immune function
  • Decreased anxiety, depression, and insomnia

Why Meditate?

The better question is why wouldn't you meditate?  The world needs meditation.  

The pursuit of happiness.

We all want to be happy, right? Life is too short to not be happy. In our pursuit of happiness, however, we get bogged down with anxiety, insomnia, stress, and habits. Even if you are 'happy' we all experience some level of stress that causes us to loose sight or let go of our center. We all make mistakes, whether it is gossiping, not listening, or not being present. Life is a busy rush. It is difficult to notice ourselves and our actions, and more importantly, the consequences of our actions. 

We can all see it. There is no denying it. Societies, especially western ones, are getting sicker and unhealthier by the day.  From endless wars, to skyrocketing obesity stats, to unhealthy economies, to never satisfied consumption levels, to a myriad of diseases, we need meditation and we need it now.

Many of us are sick, depressed, uncentered, and stressed (We see this confirmed on the daily news.). Meditation change that. The simply act of sitting quietly can alter your entire perception of life creating a calm, centered, joyous, fulfilled being. That is how the Global Meditation Project came about.

Meditation manifests deep rooted positive changes in people by simply giving you the time to notice yourself.  Time and time again we see, the simple act of sitting quietly, a few minutes a day, can alter a persons perspective of the world.  People say how much meditation has improved their entire way of life.  How they can sit with the children at the dinner table and not get angry. How they can sit in bumper to bumper traffic and just relax, how they feel unconditional love for the first time, how they can deal with any number of uncomfortable situations in a calm manner, how they slow down, how they become more grateful, how they step back into grace...the list goes on and on.  

Regardless of what the medical studies say or don't say (and they say a lot of good stuff) (that is besides the point), the people who practice meditation find they experience a increased level of wellbeing.
